Shahzad Ali Malik, Group Marketing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guard Agri has given the past 25 years of his life to promoting private sector research and development (R&D) in agriculture. A great exponent of the need to achieve food security, he pioneered the introduction of hybrid rice seed in Pakistan.
This in turn helped farmers in some of the poorest rice growing areas of Sindh and Balouchistan Provinces to double the per acre yield, also doubling their incomes and improving their living standard. Thus, a small but significant step in the national goal of poverty alleviation.
Hybridization has also given the country increased export surpluses significantly increasing export earnings which today stand at US$ 2.2 billion per annum.
